SmartOSC helps enterprises deploy production-ready Data & AI solutions across whichever cloud their business runs on: we’re looking for a Cloud Architect to design and deliver the infrastructure that these solutions run on – reliably, securely, and at enterprise scale – across AWS, GCP, Azure, and OpenShift. This is a hands-on, deeply technical, remote, contractor role engaging on a per-project basis (typically 2-3 months per engagement). You’ll own cloud architecture and deployment end to end, automating everything through infrastructure as Code, and partnering with FDEs, data scientists, and delivery teams to take solutions from build to production. You’re equally comfortable whiteboarding a landing-zone architecture with a customer and writing the Terraform that stands it up.
Key Deliverables & Responsibilities
- Design cloud architectures for Data & AI solutions across AWS, GCP, Azure, and OpenShift – landing zones, networking, compute, storage, security, and scaling.
- Build and maintain everything as code – provision and manage infrastructure through IaC (Terraform), and cloud-native tooling rather than manual configuration.
- Deploy applications and ML/AI workloads to production, owning the path from environment setup through to a reliable, monitored deployment.
- Delivery, Containers & CI/CD:
- Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for application and infrastructure delivery.
- Containerize and orchestrate workloads with Docker and Kubernetes / OpenShift.
- Implement cloud security, identity, cost, and governance best practices across environments.
- Customer & Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Partner with customers to assess their cloud landscape, recommend the right approach, and de-risk migrations and deployments.
- Collaborate with FDEs, data engineers, and data scientists to make sure solutions are architected to run well in the target Cloud.
- Troubleshoot and optimize infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost.
- Architecture & Reference Designs:
- Produce architecture documentation, reference designs, and deployment runbooks.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6+ years of experience in cloud architecture, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering.
- Hands-on experience across multiple clouds – AWS, GCP, Azure, and OpenShift (experience with several; required; willingness and ability to work across all).
- Strong infrastructure-as-code skills are mandatory – Terraform (or equivalent), plus scripting in Python, Bash, or also for automation.
- Deep experience with containerization and orchestration – Docker and Kubernetes / OpenShift.
- Hands-on experience building CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD, or similar).
- Solid grounding in cloud networking, security, identity (IAM), and cost management.
- Experience deploying applications and/or ML/AI workloads to production at scale; strong problem-solving skills with the ability to own ambiguous infrastructure problems end to end; excellent verbal and written communication, comfortable working directly with customers.
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect / DevOps, Azure Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, Red Hat OpenShift).
- Experience deploying and serving ML/AI workloads (GPU infrastructure, model serving, MLOps tooling).
- Familiarity with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog).
- Experience in a customer-facing / consulting / delivery-embedded role.
- Experience in FinOps and AI/MLOps.
